The Dream of an Insomniac

Preview

The Dream of an Insomniac is a piece of interactive fiction that attempts to explore the relationship between personal memories, narratives and archives. Created using Twine 2.10.0 and the Harlowe 2.1.0 story format, the project comprises a semi-fictional archive consisting of sketches and drawings made by the author between the ages of eight and seventeen, as well as a song written and composed by the author. This archive is presented through a non-linear fictional story told from the first-person point of view of an unnamed narrator returning to their former home in a dream; the viewers can explore the memories of the narrator through the passages connected with hyperlinks. Words, images, and music, therefore, come together to form a synesthetic exploration of the kind of complexities involved in incorporating personal memories and personal narratives as sources of information in archives.
