Blue is my favourite colour SIMRAN BHIMJYANI Preview I wrote this poem, sitting by a window close to my desk, during the COVID 19 lockdown. The stagnancy and stillness of the lockdown, with nothing to do but attend online classes and nowhere to go, the window offered the only peek into the outside world. When I gazed at the lush green view and the sparrows hopping around, I was so delighted that I wanted to capture the memory not just through pictures but also in words. The view of the blue sky felt like an epiphanic moment. I gazed at it for the longest I have ever gazed at the sky. It reminded me of the carefree days of childhood, when I would often play and gaze at the Blue skies. It reminded me of my affinity for the blue colour. The Blue sky never fails to evoke feelings of calmness and wonder.Four years later, when I returned home, I opened that window again. I could see concrete buildings. The greenery has gone and so have the sparrows. The only thing that still remains is the blue sky. Perhaps, because the sky is not anybody’s territory. It is free and will remain so forever.
